RTEs #BUILDINGIRELAND

BUILDING IRELAND is an award-winning TV series for RTÉ1 that explores and explains how Ireland’s great building and engineering achievements came to be, and their impact on the development of our towns and cities. Architecture, geography and engineering are the disciplines brought to bear; each programme focuses on a prime example of Ireland’s built heritage and recounts the fascinating story of its construction in the company of an enthusiastic team of experts.Produced by Esras Films with funding from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the series features Dr Susan Hegarty of DCU School of History and Geography, and a member of the Water Institute, as one of the co-presenters. In the current season, airing on RTÉ1 on Thursday evenings at 8pm, each episode focuses on two aspects of the development of an Irish building project. Susan, the principal geographer on the series, will explore the mining heritage of the small village of Allihies, on the Beara peninsula in West Cork, the development of the new town of Shannon in county Clare, and the site chosen for the Turlough Hill pumped storage power station in county Wicklow.
