Environ 2020 begins today

Environ is the longest running and largest forum for environmental researchers in Ireland. It provides a high-visibility platform for young and experienced researchers to present their findings to an audience drawn from academia, government bodies and agencies, as well as industry. Environ is a collaboration between the Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland (ESAI) and the Water Institute at DCU.

This year’s conference will be virtual, running from October 20th – 22nd.

A key element of DCU’s strategic plan 2017-2022 Talent, Discovery and Transformation is to place sustainability at the core of the university. This reflects, not only our commitment to play our part as a responsible organisation, but also our realisation of the messages we can convey as an exemplar organisation to both our students and society around us. Sustainability plays a key role in our academic and research activities.

The theme of Environ 2020 is Ireland’s Water, Energy & Environment in a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency, which follows on from the theme of Environ 2019, Engagement for Climate Action and indicates the urgency with which solutions to the climate and biodiversity emergency must now be found. This is reflected in the Irish Government’s Climate Action Plan to tackle climate and biodiversity breakdown and to bring about a step change in Ireland’s climate ambition.
