The DCU Water Institute and TechWorks Marine are in the process of delivering the first phase of their project Advanced Water Monitoring System (A-WaMS). This project will result in a low-cost environmental monitoring and decision support system for coastal waters. The 3 year project is supported by Project Ireland’s 2040’s Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund and sees the development of the DCU Water Institute’s optical sensor technology and integration with the advanced data analytics capabilities of TechWorks Marine.
In the 6 months since kick-off, the team are well on their way to integrating components of new generation technologies for the first environmental tests with consideration of stakeholder needs. Other key tasks involved consultation with the market through in-depth surveying and market research to assess the specific needs of coastal stakeholders and experts for the proposed support system. The comprehensive survey revealed some valuable insights from data users all over Europe. These key insights are vital to delivering a system which is easy to deploy, delivers reliable usable information and addresses current coastal monitoring needs.
