In this strategically delayed February edition of the Water Cafe, we began Seachtain Na Gaeilge with a fantastic presentation from Clíodhna Ní Ghríofa, business development manager of Nua Na Mara.
Nua Na Mara is a marine innovation development centre based in Páirc Na Mara, Coláiste Chiaráin, Conamara, Contae na Gaillimhe. Clíodhna spoke of the history and goals of Nua Na Mara as an initiative of Údaras Na Gaeilge aimed at supporting innovation, R&D, and small businesses. Nua Na Mara aims to boost the marine technology industry in the West of Ireland, as well as the Gaeltacht regions across the country through soft support training, and providing funding and facilities for research, prototyping, and product development.
Clíodhna was joined by Mícheál Ó’Cinneide in projecting future developments closely related to Nua Na Mara, largely surrounding the development of Páirc Na Mara into an 18 acre inter-agency/ inter-institute hub of marine technology innovation that will support companies large and small.
