Engaging with Society
Today the winners of the DCU President’s Award for Engagement 2020 were announced. We were delighted to be nominated for our work on citizen science in the Backdrop project – where citizens are helping monitoring the R. Liffey water quality. There were so many nominations showing the amazing work that staff and students are doing to engage with society with such important impacts. Citizen science is a really important part of what we do in the institute. Our initiatives are led by Dr Susan Hegarty. The information gathered by citizens helps to plug the gaps in information about our water quality over time and space.
Today is the final day of our 5KLitterSnap. Thanks to everyone for signing up, taking pictures and recording the data about litter in your 5K area. It is clear that during this time of restricted movement, some people have been more inclined to leave litter behind them.
