Co Clare beaches – closed due to risk of bacteria
A swimming ban was issued for four beaches in Co. Clare after routine bathing water monitoring tests showed a risk of raised bacteria levels in water. The beaches in Lahinch, Spanish Point, Kilkee, and White Strand, Miltown Milbay are all closed for swimming. The reason: heavy rain in the area leading to the high levels of bacteria due to suspected agricultural activities and runoff. The timing is not great for families planning their ‘staycation’ in the region. Hopefully it will improve soon.
It raises again the issue of bathing water quality and the importance of our coastal amenities.
