February 24, 2025 – Members of DCU Water had the privilege of attending the screening of Our Blue World: A Water Odyssey, along with the short film Seaweed Stories, at the Dublin International Film Festival.
Our Blue World takes a compelling look at humanity’s deep connection with water and highlights the urgent need for action to restore balance to the planet’s water systems. Through stunning visuals and powerful storytelling, the film explores the lives of individuals dedicated to protecting water resources, emphasizing how human agency can drive meaningful change.
As climate change accelerates, water is the key medium through which its effects—droughts, floods, fires, biodiversity loss, and pollution—are felt. Our Blue Worlds shows the critical role of water conservation and sustainable management in addressing these global challenges through community participation and deep appreciation for water.
DCU Water Institute Director, Professor Fiona Regan, participated in a post-screening panel discussion, where she highlighted the importance of citizen science in water monitoring and climate change mitigation. She emphasized the need for community engagement and trust-building in environmental initiatives, stressing that informed and active citizens are vital to safeguarding our water systems.
DCU Water Institute is set to host a screening of the film on March 19 details are coming soon!
