Water Conservation at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda

Irish Water are advising Fleadh Cheoil attendees to ‘think before you flush’ as part of their awareness campaign on the problems involved in managing or wastewater networks and conserving water. With half a million people having descended on Drogheda for Fleadh Cheoil 2018 and similar numbers expected to do so again this year, managing water in the area is a key concern.

The ‘think before you flush’ campaign advises on when to and when not to flush. A key part of the campaign involves knowing which items can and can’t be flushed down toilets – with cotton buds, baby wipes and plasters commonly being flushed. Flushing such items causes serious blockages in our pipes and wastewater treatment facilities.
