The Water Institute welcomed Prof. Dionysios D Dionysiou from the University of Cincinnati to this months Water Café where he addressed staff and students in his field of wastewater treatment. Prof. Dionysiou has a H-Index of 97 and his work has received funding from multiple organisations, including the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Department of Agriculture, the Ohio Sea Grant and DuPont among many others. With over 34,000 citations, his expert advice was greatly appreciated by the audience at the Water Café.
With advice on wastewater treatment, Prof. Dionysiou focused on the ‘roles of advanced oxidation processes in eliminating contaminants of emerging concern in water and wastewater.’ His presentation discussed contaminants that are not routinely monitored, newly invented and previously undetectable. He compared the efficacy of current and potential oxidation processes that can be used to treat our water and finished by discussing the applicability and cost of these methods.
