Let’s Step Up the Pressure to Preserve our Precious Water

More hot weather could result in a hosepipe ban, but short-term fixes are not enough. Major changes are needed, especially in the wake of Covid-19, writes Fiona Regan.

The unseasonal dry weather over the last few weeks has prompted Irish Water to issue a restriction notice.

The public has been urged not to use hosepipes and pressure washers and to stop using paddling pools. Rain may have returned in the last day or two, but another hot summer will put our most precious resource under even more pressure.

Short-term measures are not the solution to our long-term problem. Water is a public health issue. We all need clean water.
