Computer chips
Our demand for technology continues to grow and the technology industry’s need for water could become a problem. The world’s freshwater resources are already stressed, and factors like climate change and population growth will only make the situation worse. The microchips buried inside every server and nearly every other electronic device are water lovers. Up to thirty litres of water are needed to make a single chip for a laptop or smartphone, and the average semiconductor factory uses as much water in a year as a town of 50,000 people.
