The Water Institute team visited the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun last Wednesday 27th November. The Rediscovery Centre is the National Centre for the Circular Economy in Ireland that connects people, ideas and resources to support more sustainable living. There are a range of environmental programmes and initiatives and the level of creativity and inventiveness seen during the tour was impressive.
Among the highlights seen by the Water Institute were:
- The “living wall” of plants, irrigated with a dilution of rainwater and waste toilet water.
- The reed bed filtration system used to treate wastewater from the centre.
- Paint reuse and remanufacturing initiatives.
- A solid toilet waste composing system.
To check out what the Rediscovery Centre has to offer, their website can be found here. It’s definitely worth visting!
