A second Lockdown – a chance of renewal?

The government decided that, as of midnight on Wednesday 21 October, all of Ireland will be placed on Level 5 of the Plan for Living with COVID. It’s difficult for people to think about going back their 5K limit – but as we are coming to terms with the fact that we will be living with COVID, strict measures are needed. It’s so difficult on businesses, rural communities and people who have been trying to restrict their activities under Level 3. Anyway, we are where we are now for the next 6 weeks. There are so many differences compared with back in March. For a start, we didn’t know what was ahead, so we were really committed to doing it for everyone. We were in it together.

Ní neart go cur le chéile.

Also, the Spring meant we had longer evenings and the weather turned out to be the driest in years.  Now we are entering winter with cooler temperatures and darker evenings. Today, I think about the mythological bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again – the Phoenix symbolises renewal.[1] We need to think positively and think about – not what we cannot do, but rather what we can do as individuals and as a society.
